Check Your Home For Signs of Leakage
Scan your ceilings for water marks and look for peeling paint. Outside of your home make sure to look at your roof for telltale signs. Check out the ridges and see if there are any cracks. Look for loose, curled, or missing shingles, which can signal roof damage and allow water to enter the home.
Check Your Window Seals
Make sure to check the seals/weather stripping around your windows and doors. Ensure they are tight and undamaged. The same goes for skylights. This will also serve to ensure those of you with AC aren’t leaking cold air outside.
Clean Your Gutters and Downspouts
A home’s gutter system controls the flow of rainwater from the rooflines. This protects your home’s roof, walls, foundation, and landscape. If debris builds up in them, it could lead to a sagging gutter. Worse yet it could lead to mold growth, a leaky roof, or water damage to the interior or exterior of your home.
Cover and Protect Your Outdoor Furniture
This means BBQs, outdoor equipment, furniture, and hammocks. Consider bringing it inside, or at least cover it with tarps that you secured heavy objects. This will prevent rust and rot.
Have Your Trees Around Your Home Trimmed
Especially if they’ve become weakened by dry season or age. When heavy with rainwater, weak trees can snap or become uprooted.
