A Canadian Cowgirl turned developer in Nicaragua
Heather “Blue” van Doorninck is a real-deal, modern day Cowgirl. Blue not only looks the part with her cowgirl hat and boots, worn jeans and bandana, but she lives it too, riding the hills and beaches south of the town of San Juan del Sur, atop one of the many horse she owns.
She has a passion for horses, for Nicaragua, and most recently, for developing and sharing her dream with like-minded people.
While looking for an emerging market closer to Canada so that she could visit her parents more often, Blue found herself in Nicaragua. Quickly, she fell in love with the country and its people. Blue had previously run a horse ranch in Canada, and true to form, this cowgirl began acquiring horses and eventually launched one of the most sought after attractions in San Juan del Sur: Rancho Chilamate. This horseback riding experience became a bucket-list, must-do activity for locals and travellers alike.
A few years later, destiny lead her to her next project through a local farmer who sold her a large piece of property. And true to form, it became Blue’s next passion project, the development now called Big Sky Ranch.
Big Sky Ranch is truly a unique place. A gated community, powered by solar energy, with epic views, and vasty open spaces. Located near Escamequita in San Juan del Sur, Big Sky Ranch has large lots for sale, from 2,000 sq meters to 6,000 sq meters.
The views from each lot are spectacular and varied; valleys, golden fields, jungle, the ocean, Costa Rica, and of course, the big blue sky.
Several families already call Big Sky Ranch their home and you can find some of the most amazing home decor and architecture.
If you love horses, beach and nature, contact Blue for a horseback ride into the hills and along the beach. Find more information about the tours here.
